Sindile Benson Mfundisi (1972 - )

Sindile Mfundisi, was born in Nyanga East in Cape Town, where he is still residing. His love for art started when he was seven years old and started drawing soccer stars, bible stories and anything that took his fancy. Sindile works primarily in oil on stretched canvas.  Compelled to record often unseen and misunderstood Xhosa rituals in his artworks, he creates images expose and educate.  In order to accomplish this, he strives to create artworks with narratives that are clear, self-explanatory and accessible.  Although his work is sometimes regarded as controversial, he feels it's important to preserve cultural practices and believes the youth can learn a great deal about their culture from his work.  He hopes that his work contributes to the safe guarding his community from the rapid urbanisation and detribalised of traditional culture.

Sindile has exhibited in a number of exhibitions and group shows.
